Urogynecology and Urology:
Providing Health Care to Men and Women

Urogynecology is considered a subspecialty within Obstetrics and Gynecology that focuses on disorders of the female pelvic floor. These disorders include, but are not limited to, pelvic organ prolapse. Examples would be, bulging out of the uterus, vagina or the urinary bladder. Symptoms may include urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and constipation.

Here at The Woman’s Wellness Center, Dr. David C. Wilks specializes in Urogynecology and Urology. Meaning, Dr. Wilks also provides care to men as well as women. Urology focuses on the urinary tracts of males and females. For males, this also includes the reproductive system. In men, the urinary system and the reproductive system overlap. In women the urinary tract opens into the vulva. Men and women are similar in that, for both, the urinary and reproductive tracts are close together. If a person has a disorder of one of these, it is not uncommon to have it affect the other. The organs covered by urology include the bladder, kidneys, ureters, and the urethra. For the male it also includes the reproductive organs which are the epididymis, penis, prostate, testicles, seminal vesicles, and vas deferens.
