Enhanced Physician Visits

Written by: Henry Zuniga, MD

Recent forums and studies have addressed methods to enhance and improve the exchange of information at physician appointments. Several points have been stressed that patients can use to improve their appointment experience.

    Among them are:

  • Get your medical records - Medical records from previous physicians may be helpful in current treatment. Under current law previous health care providers must supply medical records upon you request.
  •

    • Bring along a family member or close friend - It is helpful to have a family member or friend who can listen carefully and perhaps help you make important decisions.
    • Talk to a nurse - If you do not understand what the doctor is saying, or if you are not comfortable discussing a topic with the physician, you should ask the nurse for assistance.
    • Find a doctor you like and respect - It is important to make a good faith effort to work with your doctor.
