A hysterectomy is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in femal patients.

In simpler terms:

  • Hysterectomy is the removal of the Uterus.

  • Abdominal Hysterectomy can be performed through an abdominal incision.

  • Vaginal Hysterectomy is performed through a vaginal incision.

  • Laparoscopically Assisted Hysterectomy is also performed through a vaginal incision but has assistance from a Laproscopic Camera.

  • Total Hysterectomy is the removal of the entire Uterus, including the cervix, but not the fallopion tubes or ovaries.

  • Subtotal Hysterectomy is the removal of the upper part of the Uterus, but not the cervix, fullopian tubes, or ovaries.

  • Radical Hysterectomy is the removal of the entire Uterus and surrounding tissue such as limph nodes. This procedure is commonly performed on cancer patients.

  • Salpingo Oophorectomy is a commonly performed procedure used during a hysterectomy. This is the removal of one ovary, fallopian tube (unilateral) or removal of both ovaries and fallopian tubes (bilateral).

  • If you have further questions regarding any of these procedures, please contact your physician at The Woman's Wellness Center, P.C.
