Stay away from caffeine, found in coffee, tea, cola, and chocolate. It has been linked to birth defects. Fruit juice is a good substitute.

Start taking walks every day. If you do strenuous aerobic exercise, limit it to 10-15 minutes at a time and rest in between. Avoid raising your body temperature over 101 degrees.

Women who smoke during pregnancy risk having very small and very sick pre-term babies. If you or your

partner smokes, get into a program to help you stop smoking before you become pregnant. Stay away from

smoke-filled rooms before and during pregnancy.

Using chewing tobacco or snuff can be just as harmful to a developing fetus as smoking cigarettes. Tobacco use in any form increases the chance of defects in the male sperm.

Alcohol can damage both eggs and sperm before conception. Taken during pregnancy, alcohol can cause slowed growth, mental retardation, and lifelong damage to the brain and nervous system of the growing fetus. No amount of beer, wine, wine coolers, or liquor is known to be safe while you are trying to get pregnant or during pregnancy.
