Permanent Birth Control

Written by: Henry Zuniga, MD

Dear Dr. Zuniga,

What are the permanent forms of Birth Control?

Birth Control can be either permanent (irreversible) or reversible. Irreversible forms include surgical sterilization. This is commonly done at the time of a cesarean section or after a vaginal delivery. It is also done as a laparoscopic procedure. Transcervical

sterilization, or the Essure method, is another method of irreversible sterilization that is not as commonly done. Finally, a vasectomy is an irreversible form of birth control that is widely performed by urologist.

For more information on these procedures, please contact us at 1-888-90WOMEN. If you would like a consult regardig a vasectomy, contact Dr. David Wilks at The Woman's Wellness Center, P.C. 219-947-1159.
